2011 Chevrolet Malibu Inventory

General Motors has
nearly the same amount of Malibu's in inventory as it has sold
Camaros!!!!
Not that the Chevrolet Camaro is not an important car today and going
forward, but someone at
General Motor
has dropped the ball on the Chevrolet Malibu and needs to join Fritz
in the no longer at
General Motor
crowd.
If the Chevy Malibu sold at Camry levels
General Motor
would have sold 27,385 Malibus in November in place of 11,113
reducing the inventory from 53,144 to 36,872 - still higher than
optimal (@ 27,385 montly) but acceptable.
We need to know exactly why
General Motor
has made a conscious business decision not to make any changes to
the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu to broaden it's market appeal and improve
sales. We also need answers to why
General Motor
was eliminating any chance for improved Malibu sales it was slowing
production and sales focus on the Cherolet Impala, allowing the
Fusion to surpass the Impala in YTD sales.
Ed needs to assign someone to get Malibu sales where they belong starting
in December 2009 with a clear strategy of changes to the 2010
Chevrolet Malibu equipment/features/price with an aggressive sales
improvement goal for the 2010 calendar year, followed by revisions
to the 2011 Chevy Malibu to follow up and build on 2010's improved
sales.
This will not be easy since the Chevy Fusion has a massive amount of
momentum built up with a still intact dealer network to deliver the
increased sales volumes that will eat directly into Chevy Malibu
sales, Ford will no doubt match
General Motor's
2012 Chevrolet Malibu with an greatly improved 2012 Chevrolet Fusion
and further build on the sales lead over the hapless Malibu.
I know what the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu looks like and it is not good
enough to stop the Fusion freight train without some significant
action on
General Motor's
part today to slow the Fusion's momentum - we cannot accept more old
General Motor
"wait until the next-gen....", it is not going to work on this
problem. Also bear in mind the 2011 Sonata will be taking even more
sales from the Chevy Malibu with an expanding dealer network along
with the new Kia mid-size offering, to add to GM's misery a new
Camry, Accord and Altima will be waiting to beat the crap out of the
2012 Malibu when it shows up.
